Frankfurt a. M., 08 August 2019 – another innovative analysis tool is now available for publishing clients of Bookwire GmbH as part of the company’s in-house software, Bookwire OS.The Audience Analytics Dashboard gives audiobook publishers detailed information about their audiobooks and audio plays streamed from the world’s leading providers – from a comprehensive overview of streams listened to, through insights into use in the relevant portals, to detailed user information.
It is the first major expansion of “Bookwire OS – the Operating System for Digital Publishing”, which was launched in spring 2019, and has been designed and programmed by Bookwire IT experts to meet the needs of national and international publishing clients. Along with immense data depth, the experts focused on usability and clear presentation of complex data streams from streaming portals and their users.
“Streaming is an important distribution channel for all audiobook publishers – and it keeps on growing. However, being able to make optimum use of streaming options for distribution and marketing in this specialised market environment requires in-depth knowledge of user behaviour. When they stream a product, customers aren’t making a purchase decision. They click on an audiobook, but can also unclick it again immediately afterwards. Customers don’t own the audiobooks; they just use them once or more. Knowledge is required to understand this behaviour and to maximise usage figures – and that’s what we offer in Bookwire OS with our new Audience Analytics Dashboard, up-to-the-minute and in incredible detail”, says John Ruhrmann, Managing Director of Bookwire GmbH.
Two types of information: stream-based data and user-based data
Up-to-the-minute data from the largest global streaming portals – Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and Napster – is shown in Bookwire OS. Bookwire publishing clients can access it individually for all titles that they have released for streaming distribution in Bookwire OS, and receive data about performance on the portals and about users.
Some of the detailed data includes demographic user information (age groups, gender, country, etc.), as well as time and duration of streaming, the user’s subscription model and how the user accessed the audiobook – was it found by searching or is it part of a playlist or album?
Stream-based information puts the user data in a larger context. This includes constant addition of the streamed titles in the respective shops over a selected period, as well as the percentage distribution of streams with revenue (> 30 seconds’ playback time) and without revenue (< 30 seconds’ playback time). Distribution of streams through premium subscriptions or free accounts with the various portals is also evaluated.
Publishers can see all of this data at catalogue level and for individual products.
Over two million data sets are evaluated and presented in the Audience Analytics Dashboard every day
“The Bookwire OS Audience Analytics Dashboard already processes over two million data sets every day, and this number is rapidly rising. The main challenge of development was presenting the different data streams in a very clear and well-organised way. Our clients need to be able to grasp the information presented at a glance, but at the same time be able to put together the dashboard individually to meet their needs”, Ruhrmann continues.
The launch of the Bookwire OS Audience Analytics Dashboard on 7 August is also the launch of its further development, and areas dealing with playlists and series will be added to the audiobook streaming analysis tool this year.
